After having been very busy lately (blog post coming soon about this!), the fourth Blog interview is here! Featured this time is Bárbara Laso, whose work shows the beauty of nature in a unique way. Get to know her better below:

Give us some background (where you're from, where you live, where/what you have studied, anything from your past that has brought you to where you are today).

Bárbara Laso was born in Sobarzo, Cantabria, Spain, 1978. She studied photography at the Oviedo School of Arts. She worked for almost 20 years in this preference. Two years ago, she decided to change her life, taking a radical turn, she began her jewellery studies at the Mestre Mateo School, Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. A personal encounter that arises in the experimentation of found and alternative materials, without any type of treatment, as in the case of the stones on the beach, where you add small brass figures giving meaning and completion to the pieces, you and I have points of union - "the union of different materials by points, represents the union of different people and the symbiosis until we create that perfect bond that makes us one. Even in the midst of experimentation, she works with porcelain, brass, wool, even living lichens, giving meaning to your creations, as in the "naturally imperfect" case! the search for herself in all her pieces always marked by the natural materials that define her work and herself. The key to the concept of your jewellery is nature and concern for this, how to make jewellery more materially alternative without losing its beauty.

Why contemporary jewellery?

Contemporary jewellery identifies me, I feel that it is the moment we live in and the need to express what is happening right now.

What inspires you? How has your work changed from the very beginning?

Nature inspires my pieces, living in it and feeling covered in harmony with it makes me feel good. My work evolves with the materials that I use in my form of expression, for me it is very important to work apart from what I find in nature. Not to recreate or reproduce nature, if not to use what it offers me and to work apart from its materials.

Are there any rules that you always follow in your work and ethics?

My rule is nature and it’s good.

Any events coming up? Where can we see your work?

My work can be seen on different networks and platforms.
