Introduction: why start a blog?

Introduction: why start a blog?

The question all of you might be wondering - why would I start a blog? I'm a jewellery artist, I know how to work with jeweller tools; I'm not a writer and I definitely don't want to pretend I am one (and to be honest, I have always been a bit anxious when it comes to writing anything ‘public’). But I am a dreamer and I want to help people in whatever way I can.

Therefore, here I am. I have decided to start writing this blog for a few reasons, but the main one being to help promote fellow artists and jewellers. In the times of the 'rona, there isn't much face to face interaction happening; one day, things will get back to some kind of normal, but until then, I believe that everything being online is no longer the future, but the present - now more than ever. Also, any promotion is welcome when it comes to starting out/ new designers (I should know), and it’s even better when it’s free!

While galleries and shops are slowly starting to open, the kind of ‘intimate’, in-person interaction is still almost absent, with all the social/physical distancing guidelines (which all of us should definitely follow) being in place. So, although I am aware that there are numerous blogs/websites/on-line platforms/social media accounts out there, writing about all the on-line exhibitions and resources that are just a click away, what I am planning to do is something slightly different. I don’t want to replace them, or write about the same subjects, but I want to feature them and make their work more publicly known; and from the perspective of someone who’s recently finished her BA (3 years ago still feels like yesterday), provide some advice to the newly graduates about how to navigate the post-college life (with accounts to follow, websites to check, Q&As, etc).

If any of that sounds interesting to you, follow or subscribe to the mailing list and be sure to keep up to date with all the new articles on the subjects of:

  • Sustainability

  • Open-calls

  • Resources

  • Interviews

...and more!

‘Til next time,

Yours truly,

Sabina
